Scientific Research Unit

Overview of the Research Unit

This unit is affiliated with the Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, and it specializes in meeting the needs of graduate students regarding scientific research and its governing regulations, in order to achieve efficiency in conducting scientific studies.

Tasks of the Research Unit

  • 1. Guidance and support: Providing guidance and necessary support to students in the field of scientific research.
  • 2. Providing resources: Supplying students with the necessary resources, including forms and guidelines.
  • 3. Organizing research activities: Holding workshops and seminars that enhance the research knowledge of graduate students.
  • 4. Facilitating communication: Facilitating communication between students and experts in the field of nursing from faculty members.
  • 5. Encouraging scientific publication: Supporting students in publishing their research in scientific journals and periodicals.
  • 6. Responding to inquiries: Answering inquiries and questions regarding research through the electronic communication page.
  • 7. Research consultations: Conducting research consultations by unit members to assist researchers at any research stage, and providing spaces for these consultations within the campus.
  • 8. Recording research activities: Documenting research activities including scientific publications, authored books, and participation in scientific conferences locally, regionally, and internationally for graduate students.

Services of the Research Unit

1- Research Consultation Service

Introduction:
The Research Unit at the College of Nursing strives to provide full support for students, both male and female, and staff by offering research consultations aimed at improving their research skills and enhancing their ability to conduct high-quality scientific studies. This service covers all students and staff of the college, and addresses various aspects of research, from formulating the research idea to data analysis and writing results.

Objectives of the Service:

  • • Guiding students in selecting appropriate research topics that align with their academic and professional interests.
  • • Assisting students in formulating the research problem, objectives, and questions.
  • • Guiding students on how to prepare and design data collection tools (questionnaires, interviews, etc.).
  • • Assisting students in selecting appropriate statistical methods for data analysis.
  • • Reviewing research papers and helping students in preparing and drafting various research chapters, such as the introduction, methodology, and analysis.
  • • Assisting students in selecting the appropriate scientific journal for publication and the steps of publishing.

Mechanism of Providing the Service:

  • • Individual consultations: Students may request individual consultations with a faculty member to discuss their research ideas or address any problems they face while working on their research.
  • • Responding to inquiries: Providing answers and consultations via email or the college’s communication platforms.

Target Groups:

  • • Undergraduate students in the stages of preparing any research project.
  • • Master’s and PhD students working on their academic research.

2- Research Assistant Service

Introduction:
The Research Unit at the College of Nursing provides the “Research Assistant” service for undergraduate and graduate students. This service aims to enable students to gain practical experience in research work by assisting in research projects conducted by the college’s faculty members. In return, students receive educational opportunities in one aspect of scientific research and earn experience certificates or approved volunteer hours.

Objectives of the Service:

  • • Providing opportunities for students to participate in academic research.
  • • Developing research skills (data collection, statistical analysis, literature review, report writing).
  • • Promoting academic engagement and building a culture of scientific research.
  • • Providing volunteer hours or an approved experience certificate.
  • • Student approval of developing a specific skill during their work as a research assistant.

Mechanism of the Service:

  1. Request by faculty members: Faculty members submit a request to register students as research assistants.
  2. Request by students: Students interested in working as research assistants submit a request to the unit based on the field the student wishes to learn.
  3. Faculty approval: The unit matches students with projects as needed, and both parties agree on the skills to be developed.
  4. Determining work hours and training: Defining the hours and aspects the student will learn (data collection, analysis, literature review, academic writing).
  5. Documentation and follow-up: Signing an agreement, documenting working hours, and monitoring progress periodically.

3- Research Team Coordination Service

Service Description:
The Research Unit at the College of Nursing provides the service of coordinating research teams for students, faculty members, and college staff who aim to conduct joint scientific research. This service seeks to provide the necessary support to form effective research teams that ensure a balance of specializations and research fields, which helps improve the quality of research and enhance scientific collaboration among individuals. It also provides students and faculty with the opportunity to develop research and teamwork skills.

Objectives of the Service:

  • • Forming integrated research teams from multiple nursing and health specialties.
  • • Enhancing collaboration among faculty members, staff, and students.
  • • Supporting the preparation and publication of scientific research through coordinated teams.
  • • Providing consultation for organizing the team and distributing tasks.

Service Mechanism:

  1. Applying for the service: Filling out the service request form with project details and objectives of forming the team.
  2. Reviewing the request: Verifying that the project aligns with the academic goals of the college.
  3. Forming the team: Coordinating a team of students and faculty registered in the research specialization database of the Research Unit.
  4. Preparing the work plan: Holding an initial meeting to agree on the work plan and task distribution.
